Walkthrough Services FAQ's

What are your hours?

The Main Library is Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. (effective July 22, 2020). The Richmond Branch Library is open Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. (effective July 28, 2020).

What are you doing to prevent the spread of COVID-19?

The library staff is taking many protective measures, including requiring staff and visitors to properly wear masks, have their temperature checked and use hand sanitizer upon entering the building, social distancing, installation of plexiglass at our service desks, thorough cleanings throughout the day, and quarantining and disinfecting materials when they are returned. Only one person will be allowed in a row of stacks at a time. Public computers are spread out. Also, some of our normal services or often-touched items will be unavailable (see question below). We are also offering a contactless Curbside Pickup Service.

What will be unavailable?

In an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19, the following will be unavailable to the public: restrooms, sitting areas, copiers, fax machine, newspapers, office supplies, water fountains, computer reservation stations, change, pay phone and Teen Lounge (Makerspace and video games). We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause.

Will Gov. Murphy's indoor capacity limit affect the library?

Yes, we are permitted to allow 25 percent of our normal capacity into the library. As part of our “walkthrough phase,” those visiting the library are allowed a maximum of 15 minutes to browse and borrow materials. Computer sessions will be a maximum of 30 minutes. Due to the limited number of computers available in Youth Services, sessions will be limited to 30 minutes. Youth Services computers may be used on a walk-in basis or by making a reservation by calling (609) 345-2269, ext. 3050.

What happens if I arrive and you are already at capacity?

We will have two lines outside of the Main Library: one for those who want to enter the library, and a second line for those only using our Curbside Pickup Service.

What if I need a longer period of time on the computer?

Those who need a longer computer session will need to make a reservation at least 24 hours in advance. A reservation can be made for a maximum of one hour. Visit the Help Desk or call (609) 345-2269 for a reservation.

My items were due back before you closed. What are you doing about overdue fines?

We are waiving all overdue fines when late materials are returned, regardless of the amount or how late those items are. Repeated overdues may result in a loss of membership privileges.

Can I sit down to read?

Unfortunately, no. We need people during this "walkthrough phase" to take care of their library business quickly since we are limited in capacity and hours of operation. We want to limit how long people have to wait in line to use the library.

Are the book drops open?

Yes, they will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week – with the exception being holidays and holiday weekends. We encourage people who are stopping by just to return their materials (books, DVDs, CDs and magazines) to place them in our book drop.

Will you be holding programs?

Yes, but they will only be online for now. Registration is required for many of the programs. For the schedule, click here.

Can I use the microfillm?

Yes, use of the microfilm will be available by appointment. Please contact our archivist at (609) 345-2269.

When do you expect things to return to normal?

It’s impossible to predict. We are following mandates from the State of New Jersey. Changes in the COVID-19 statistics could positively or negatively affect the hours and services we’re able to offer. We anticipate that our “new normal” will remain in place for months.
