Library to serve as Makers Day site March 10

NJMakersDaylogoThe Atlantic City Free Public Library will serve as a host site for the third annual New Jersey Makers Day on Saturday, March 10. The library will give children, teens and their families an opportunity to participate in maker-related activities and collaborative projects from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Main Library’s Teen Makerspace and meeting room, both located on the second floor.

Green Screen Photoshop Booth (10 a.m.-3 p.m.) — Participants will be photographed in front of a green screen and choose which background they want behind them. The library will email participants the Photoshopped image.

Demonstration Tables from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. — Learn about the technology and tools that are available in the Makerspace, including: 3D printer,  performing and producing Music with Ableton Live + Push Touchpad, sewing machine, t-shirt design with the silhouette cutter, button maker, STEM learning toys for kids, and knitting and crocheting.

STEM Craft Time with Oceanside Family Success Center from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.  — Make and take home a craft.

STEM Storytime and Craft: “Rosie Revere, Engineer” at 2 p.m. – Hear the story of a young girl named Rosie Revere, who is a brilliant inventor of gizmos and gadgets followed by craft.
 
STEM Science Project with Rutgers Extension Volunteer Kendrin Dyitt from 2-4 p.m. –Recycling project.

Since the Atlantic City Library Makerspace opened in 2014, local teens have been invited to “Make AC: Dream It, Design It, Do It.” The Makerspace — located in the Teen Space — features a variety of technology and tools. NJ Makers Day is a statewide event that celebrates maker culture, as well as the values associated with STEM-based learning.
