Hispanic Heritage Month concert on Oct. 11 to feature Cuerdas de Borinquen

MagdalizThe Atlantic City Free Public Library has planned special programs – including two concerts – in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15-Oct. 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
Sept. 15 marks the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on Sept. 16 and 18, respectively.
Creative Craft on Friday, Sept. 14, at 3:30 p.m. – Kids ages 6-12 will create a special craft with a Hispanic theme. All supplies provided.
Decorating Traditional Hispanic Cookies on Friday, Sept. 21, at 3 p.m. – Children and their families are invited to decorate, and eat, traditional Hispanic cookies called polvorones. CuerdasThis program is being held in partnership with the Oceanside Family Success Center. Registration is required. Please call (609) 345-2269, ext. 3050, to register.
Concert featuring Magdaliz and Her Latin Ensemble CRISOL on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m. — Crisol, which is Spanish for melting pot, is an ensemble that has been performing in Philadelphia and surrounding areas since 1997. This group is dedicated to the interpretation of a variety of folk and traditional music genres from Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela, and other parts of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Concert featuring Cuerdas de Borinquen on Thursday, Oct. 11, at 5 p.m. — Cuerdas de Borinquen is a four-piece group that showcases the tropical sounds of Puerto Rico in its performances. The band performs regularly at Olon Restaurant at Tropicana Casino & Resort Atlantic City.
